Garfield Township, Clare County, Michigan

Discover the Lake Life in Lake, MI.

A Growing Place to Live, Work or Visit

Garfield Township is anchored by Lake Station, Mi an unincorporated community within the township just a ¼ mile south off of US Highway 10, a major East-West corridor across the State of Michigan and a short 5 miles from M-115 a major route to Michigan’s Northwest region of lakes, rivers and forests. The settlement began as a depot on the Pere Marquette Railway named Lake Station in 1877, after its location next to Crooked Lake and Perch Lakes.  The historic Pere Marquette railway has been transformed into the Pere Marquette State Trail an 88 mile railtrail that runs west from Midland, Mi to Baldwin, Mi.

Garfield Township is a rural area with a large cross section of outdoor recreation available to residents and tourists.  The current Township Board has been supportive of planned, strategic growth in the township and has pushed for growth plans enabling a 5-year park plan as well as a rural business development plan generated from a USDA Grant in 2020.  The Park Plan has led to a significant investment in a new Trailhead location at the Historic Lake Station depot.

Over the past four years the township has secured almost $500,000 in grant funding to develop both its area parks and business development research projects to attract new business as well as support our existing businesses.  If you are looking for rural lake living or a place for small businesses that support a recreation industry we hope you give us some consideration
